    HIPAA Compliance Overview

    The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) sets national standards that protect the privacy and security of individually identifiable health information by covered entities which include health plans, health care clearinghouses, and health care providers who conduct the standard health care transactions electronically. Covered entities are required to comply with the HIPAA regulations on an organization level and implement safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information (PHI) of patients.
